For DJs

The key and BPM finder for DJs

Drop your crate. Read every key, Camelot code and tempo in one table, check the close calls by ear, and walk into the set knowing what mixes with what.

  1. 8A is A minor. Say it’s the track playing.
  2. +1 → 9A. One step clockwise lifts the energy.
  3. −1 → 7A. One step back settles it.
  4. Same number, other letter → 8B, C major. The same notes, a brighter mood.
  5. Those three mix. The rest of the wheel you pitch, or you clash.
  6. Now read the key a fifth off and the track sits at 9A. The wheel sends you to 10A, which clashes with what’s really playing. The right key comes first.

Your whole crate, in one table

Drop a folder of up to 500 tracks and every one is read into a single table. Sort by Camelot code and 8A sits beside 8B and 9A, so the tracks that mix are already next to each other. Search with ⌘F by name, key, code or tempo: type "8A" or "124". Export it all as CSV.

Mix in key, without the chart

Every track gets its Camelot code, and the wheel is drawn with your key filled and the three that mix with it lit. One step up lifts the energy, one step down settles it, and switching letter at the same number changes the mood on the same notes. How the wheel works →

Extended mixes move. DropWave notices.

An intro in one key, a lift for the last drop, an outro somewhere else. One answer for the whole track would be wrong exactly where you mix. Key changes show the key of every section and where it starts, so you mix out of the key the track is actually in when you leave it.

Tempo changes work the same way: every stretch gets its own BPM and its own grid.

The right tempo, and the other one

Tempo to two decimal places, with every beat drawn on the waveform and the bars marked. A drum & bass tune at 174 has a half-time feel at 87; a trap tune at 140 is often counted at 70. Half / As detected / Double switches a track in one click, and your choice carries into the table, the file names and the CSV.

Know when a reading was close

Every key and tempo carries a confidence, and when two answers were close, the runner-up is named. Hear key plays the chord at the track's own tuning and Click on beats plays a metronome on the grid, so a close call is settled in seconds, at home, not in front of a crowd.

Rips and edits that drift

Vinyl rips and old edits drift off A = 440. DropWave measures the tuning in cents, so a rip that sits flat still reads as its real key, and you know it's flat before you mix it against something that isn't.

The key in every file name

Tag Filenames writes the code and tempo into each name, like warehouse_edit [8A 124].mp3, after showing you every change. It never overwrites a file, and ⌘Z undoes it. From then on the key travels with the file: onto a USB stick, into any software, to another computer.

Level the crate

Integrated loudness in LUFS and true peak for every track, so you spot the quiet ones and the hot ones before the set. On a Mac, Match loudness plays every file at the same level, so you compare the music, not the volume.

Promos stay private

Promos, unreleased edits and white labels are analysed on your own computer and never uploaded. No account, no analytics.

Questions

How do I find the key and BPM of all my DJ tracks at once?

Drop the whole folder on DropWave. Up to 500 tracks are read into one table with the key, Camelot code and tempo of each, which you can sort, search and export as CSV, and DropWave can write the key and tempo into the file names.

Does DropWave show Camelot codes?

Yes. Every reading carries its Camelot code, the wheel is drawn with the three positions that mix with it lit, and you can sort and search the table by code.

Does it work with my DJ software?

It works alongside it. DropWave writes the key and tempo into the file names, so they travel into whatever software you play from, and it exports the whole table as CSV. It never changes your audio.

Does DropWave work without internet?

Yes. Analysis happens on your computer, so it works in a booth with no Wi-Fi. The app needs a connection once every 30 days to check your beta key.
